Make a stock adjustment
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The location the stock moved at.
- What changed and by how much (units damaged, found, given away, miscounted on receipt).
- A reason, if your team labels adjustments — the list is shared with stock takes.
- Go to Inventory Management → Stock Adjustments and click New adjustment. 2. Pick your location from the buttons in the middle of the dialog — the one you used last is highlighted. If your store has a single location it’s already chosen and this step disappears. 3. Add your items. The scan box is already waiting for your cursor, so a scanner needs no clicks; otherwise use Pick items to search the catalog or Upload a CSV / XLSX. Mix them freely. 4. Set the amount per row: type a plain number and use the row’s Add | Remove switch for the direction. It turns green for stock coming in and red for stock going out, and the row shows the resulting quantity so you can sanity-check it. (When scanning, the Add / Remove toggle next to the scan box decides which way scans count; every scan moves the row by one.) 5. Want a reason, a name or notes on the record? They’re behind Details — optional, and never in your way. Adjusted by is already filled in with your name. 6. Click Adjust now. Logistified creates the adjustment and pushes the movements to Shopify; the document lands on Completed.
Prefer to finish later? Click Save as draft instead — nothing reaches Shopify until you open the document and apply it.
Worked example
Section titled “Worked example”Two cartons arrive damaged at the main warehouse: 8 units of TSHIRT-BLK-M are unsellable, and while checking you find 3 units of MUG-RED that were never booked in.
- New adjustment → location Main Warehouse. 2. Pick items →
TSHIRT-BLK-MandMUG-RED. 3. On the t-shirt row, flip the switch to Remove and type 8; leave the mug row on Add and type 3. The rows read −8 and +3 and show 42 → 34 and 17 → 20. - Optional: Details → reason Damage. 5. Adjust now. Shopify’s on-hand for both variants updates, the document reads Completed, and its history shows you as the operator.
Undoing one
Section titled “Undoing one”Open the adjustment → Actions → Revert stock adjustment → keep Apply immediately ticked → Revert.
Logistified creates the mirror-image adjustment (+8 / −3 in the example above), applies it, and links the two documents so both stay in your history. Nothing is deleted or rewritten.
Common failure modes
Section titled “Common failure modes”| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| ”This adjustment would leave a negative quantity on hand” | You’re removing more than the location holds. | Check the on-hand shown on the row. If the system figure is wrong, run a stock take — that’s the tool for correcting a total. |
| An item can’t be added | The variant has no inventory at the chosen location (“Not stocked”). | Pick the right location, or stock the variant there in Shopify first. |
| Your items vanished when you changed location | On-hand is counted per location, so the list can’t carry over. Logistified asks before clearing it. | Set the location first; if you confirmed by mistake, add the items again at the right location. |
| The document stays In Progress after Adjust now | Shopify rejected one or more lines (deleted variant, not active at that location). | The reason is on the row. Fix it — or use the on-screen prompts to activate or replace the variant — then apply again; only the unsent lines are re-sent. |
| A line shows Re-sync | You changed the amount after it was applied. | Apply again — only the difference is sent. |
| Revert is greyed out | Nothing to undo: never applied, still has unsent lines, cancelled, or already reverted. | The tooltip says which. |
| Adjust now is greyed out | No row carries an amount yet, or a row would go below zero. | Type an amount on at least one row and clear any red row. Save as draft still works while every row is valid. |
