- A saved Forecast View covering the variants you care about (see Forecast → Views & filters).
- Your own email, so you can test before adding the rest of the team.
- Open Notifications in the sidebar.
- On the General tab, pick the Forecast View that scopes the rule.
- On the Triggers tab, leave Monitoring Scope on Monitor All Variants for your first run. Turn on at least one trigger and set its value (e.g., Stock Threshold = 30, or Stock-Out Alert = on).
- Open the Recipients tab. If you don’t see yourself in the list, click the gear icon to jump to the Recipients page and add yourself, then return.
- Tick your name on the rule’s Recipients tab.
- (Optional) Open the Preview tab to see what the email will look like.
- At the top of the page, toggle Enable notifications on. The configuration auto-saves.
- Edit a variant’s inventory in Shopify to deliberately cross the trigger you configured. You should receive the email within a few seconds.
Worked example
Section titled “Worked example”Get an email the moment any variant in your “Active Catalog” view drops to or below 30 units.
- General → Forecast View: Active Catalog.
- Triggers → Monitoring Scope: Monitor All Variants.
- Triggers → Stock Threshold: on, value 30.
- Recipients: yourself and your buyer.
- Top of page: Enable notifications = on.
Common failure modes
Section titled “Common failure modes”| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No email arrives after a stock change | Master Enable switch is off, no recipients are ticked on this rule, or no trigger is enabled. | Re-check the toggle at the top, the Recipients tab, and the Triggers tab. |
| No email even with everything enabled | The variant isn’t in the rule’s Forecast View, or its inventory didn’t cross the trigger this time (it was already below). | Pick a view that includes the variant. Remember: triggers only fire on a crossing — going from above the threshold to at-or-below. |
| Days-from-reorder trigger never fires | The forecast hasn’t computed that variant yet, or the projected days are zero/negative. | Wait for the forecast to catch up, or confirm the variant has order history. |
| Wrong people getting alerts | They’re ticked on the rule’s Recipients tab. | Untick them on the rule, or delete them from the global Recipients list. There is no per-recipient view filter. |
| Too many alerts | The view is too broad. | Switch Monitoring Scope to Monitor Only Specific Variants and add just the SKUs you care about, or pick a narrower Forecast View. Days-from-reorder won’t repeat for the same variant within 48 hours regardless. |
