Adding products to a plan

Enhanced plan

A variant can be in a plan only once. Whenever you add products to a plan, Logistified won’t let you add one that’s already there. If you removed a product at one location and want it back there, use Add missing products.

Launch plans come with the Enhanced plan. Inventory commitments and sales plans need Elevate. See Plan requirements.

Sales Plans and New Product Planning share one Add products menu, in the wizard when you create the plan and on the plan’s page later. It offers five ways to add:

SourceWhat it does
Browse productsThe product picker: search your Shopify products and tick variants, or a whole product.
Scan barcodesScan a barcode or SKU with a scanner, or type one and press Enter. Each product is added once, however often you scan it.
Upload a spreadsheetA CSV, XLS or XLSX file with one product per row, identified by Variant ID, SKU or Barcode.
From a forecast viewEvery product a saved forecast view (or filters you build on the spot) finds at the plan’s locations.
Virtual materialsRaw materials you manage in Assemblified. See Adding virtual materials.

Where each one is offered:

  • Sales Plans: all five, in the wizard and on a saved plan. On a saved plan, each product you add is planned at every location of the plan, seeded from that location’s sales last year.
  • New Product Planning: all five for individual products. A size group’s Add variants, and To “group” on a saved plan, offer fewer: browse, virtual materials and, in the wizard, scanning and spreadsheets. See Size groups.
  • Inventory Commitments use their own Add items menu on the Items tab: Add from Shopify, Virtual materials, Scan barcode and Upload CSV. Scanning there counts: each scan adds 1 to the item’s estimated quantity. See Items, dates & probability.

Upload products reads one product per row and ignores other columns. In each row, the first identifier it finds decides:

  1. Variant ID: the Shopify variant ID.
  2. SKU, when the row has no Variant ID. Common names such as Article number or Item code are recognised too.
  3. Barcode (EAN, UPC or GTIN), when the row has neither.

Example file › Download CSV or Download XLSX gives you a file to fill in. Files up to 20 MB work. If the columns match, the mapping step is skipped; otherwise you map them yourself.

Before anything is added, the preview tells you what it found, for example “3 products to add. 1 already on the plan (skipped). 1 not found: ABC-1.” Rows that match nothing, or more than one product, are listed and left out. Click Add 3 products to add them, or Change mapping or Upload a different file.

Add products from a forecast view lets you reuse a view you already have, for example Bestsellers or Winter range. Pick it under View, or choose Create custom filters to build a one-off selection.

  • Every product the view finds that is stocked at the plan’s locations is added.
  • The view’s own location filter doesn’t count: “This view’s location filter is replaced by this plan’s locations.”
  • Filters on forecast numbers (such as days of stock) aren’t used to pick products. The dialog names the ones it leaves out.
  • If the products don’t fit in the plan, nothing is added and the dialog says how many the plan can hold. Narrow the view, or pick fewer locations.

A short summary says what happened, for example “120 added. 12 already on the plan (skipped).” Products that couldn’t be found are named. A variant that’s already in the plan is never added twice; the next section explains why.

This applies to every Inventory Planning plan: when you create one, and when you add products later with Add products (on a commitment, Add items).

In the product picker, a variant that’s already in the plan is marked Already added and can’t be ticked. If you tick a whole product, only its variants that aren’t in the plan yet are added. If every variant of a product is in the plan, the whole product reads Already added.

On a New Product Planning plan with size groups, Add products opens a menu. The rule applies to both entries: New products, and To “group” for adding variants to a size group. A variant added to a size group gets an even share of the split (with four sizes, 25%) and the other sizes scale down, so the group still adds up to 100%. The group’s panel then says “size was added with an even share. Check the split.” until you save the group. See Size groups.

When you create a New Product Planning plan, each size group has its own Add variants button. It offers every way to add except a forecast view (browse, scan barcodes, upload a spreadsheet, virtual materials), and a variant that’s already in the plan, as an individual product or in another group, is marked Already added there too.

“Already in the plan” means at any location. On a New Product Planning plan or a Sales Plan with several locations, a new product is planned at every location of the plan at once. You never need to add it a second time for another location.

Why: a variant planned twice would have its plan counted twice, and its attainment would no longer mean anything.

If two people add the same product at the same moment, the second add skips it and says so: “1 already on the plan (skipped)”.

Virtual materials are the raw materials you manage in Assemblified. You plan them exactly like a Shopify product:

  • Inventory Commitments: on the Items tab, open Add items and choose Virtual materials.
  • Sales Plans and New Product Planning: open Add products and choose Virtual materials, when you create the plan or later. On a New Product Planning plan, a material can also join a size group (Add variants, or To “group” on a saved plan) and be a similar product (Add similar product → Virtual materials).

The same rule applies: a material already in the plan is marked Already added.

Targets, revenue, curves, the forecast and promotional events treat a material like any product: its history is what Assemblified used of it, and its revenue comes from its price.

One thing works differently, because virtual materials don’t exist in Shopify: Create sales order on a commitment leaves them off the Shopify draft order. The dialog says so before you create the order, for example “1 virtual material is not sold in Shopify and stays off this order.”, and its quantities and line count only cover what the draft order gets. Afterwards, the confirmation names the materials it skipped.

When you remove a product at one location, it stays in the plan at its other locations. That’s why Add products shows it as Already added. To plan it at that location again, use Add missing products:

  1. In the location switcher at the top of the plan, pick the location.

  2. Open Actions and choose Add missing products…. The menu says how many products are missing, for example “2 products planned elsewhere but not at Berlin”.

  3. Check the summary and click Add 2 products.

Logistified confirms with “Berlin: 2 products added back”. Only the missing products are added. Nothing else in the plan changes.

Add missing products… only shows up in the menu when a single location is picked and that location is missing products the plan has elsewhere.

Where the restored numbers come from:

  • New Product Planning: each curve is rebuilt from the product’s similar products at that location. A size-group variant comes back with its old share of the split, and the group’s other sizes scale down so the split still adds up to 100%.
  • Sales Plans: targets are seeded from that location’s own sales last year, at each product’s growth.

If a product can’t be brought back, a message names it and says why. If none could, you’ll see “Nothing was added back at location”.

Products deleted in Shopify. A product you deleted in Shopify keeps the rows it already has on the plan, but it is never planned anywhere new: Add missing products…, Add location… and Sync locations skip it, on sales plans and launch plans alike. Add missing products… can still count it as missing; when it skips it, the message reads, for example, “1 product could not be added back here because it was deleted from the shop: Mug (Blue)”.

  • Sales Plans: the location stays on the plan. Its Products tab reads “No products at location” and, when the Actions menu offers it, points you to Add missing products. The next time you add new products to the plan, they’re planned there too.
  • New Product Planning: a launch location with no products left is no longer part of the plan. Add it again with Actions › Add location…, which plans every product there.
