Creating a commitment
You can create one commitment at a time by hand and add its products afterwards, or create several commitments, products included, from one spreadsheet. Every new commitment starts in Draft, so nothing reaches the forecast until you confirm it.

Two ways to create
Section titled “Two ways to create”On the Inventory Commitments list, click Create Inventory Commitment. The button opens a menu:
- Create manually: fill in one commitment’s details, then add its products on the commitment page.
- Import from CSV/XLSX: create one or more commitments with their products from a file.
Create manually
Section titled “Create manually”The Create Inventory Commitment dialog says “Capture expected future demand. Commitments start in Draft. Add items on the next screen.” It has four sections. The links at the bottom left (Details, Timing, Categorization, Recipient) jump to each one.
- Plan Details: Name. It’s optional: leave it empty and the commitment is called by its plan number, such as IC-00001.
- Timing & Likelihood: the Target date, as a Single date or a Date range, and the Default probability.
- Categorization: Demand type, Reason, Source and Notes.
- Recipient (optional): who the units are for. Click the heading to open the section.
Target date, Default probability, Demand type, Reason and Source have an info button next to their label with a short explanation.
-
On the Inventory Commitments list, click Create Inventory Commitment › Create manually.
-
Enter a Name, for example Hotel chain spring order.
-
Under Target date, choose Single date or Date range and pick the date or dates.
-
Set the Default probability, for example 80.
-
Optional: pick a Demand type, Reason and Source, add Notes, and fill in the Recipient.
-
Click Create Inventory Commitment. Logistified confirms with “Inventory Commitment IC-… created” and opens the new commitment in Draft. Add its products on the Items tab next; see Items, dates & probability.
If the commitment can’t be created, the dialog stays open with everything you typed, and a message says why.
You can leave the target date empty while you work on a draft, but you need one to confirm the commitment. See Plan statuses & lifecycle.
Single date or date range
Section titled “Single date or date range”- Single date (one Target date): the whole demand happens on that day. Use it for an order that ships on one day.
- Date range (Start date and End date): “Demand is spread evenly across the range.” Use it for a contract or a promotion that runs over weeks. The chips above the dates fill in a common period in one click: This Quarter, Next Quarter, Rest of Year, This Year, Next Year or Next 12 Months. The end date must be on or after the start date, or the dialog says “End date must be on or after the start date”.
The target date applies to every item that has no date of its own. You can give single items their own date later.
Probability
Section titled “Probability”The Default probability says how likely the demand is, from 0 to 100%. It starts at 100 and can’t be left empty (“Enter a probability from 0 to 100”). The forecast counts each item’s estimated quantity times the probability: 500 units at 80% count as 400.
Use it to plan for demand that isn’t certain yet:
- A signed order: 100%.
- A customer who said “very likely”: 80%.
- A tender you’ve bid on: 20% or 30%.
Items can have their own probability, which overrides the default. When you order from a commitment, you can choose between the full planned quantity and the probability-weighted one. See Ordering from a commitment.
Demand type, reason and source
Section titled “Demand type, reason and source”These three labels help you sort and report on your commitments. They’re for your records only and don’t change the forecast.
- Demand type: what kind of demand it is, such as Promotion, Seasonal or Contract.
- Reason: why you expect it, such as Sales Commitment or Customer Forecast.
- Source: where it comes from, such as Sales Team or Customer.
Click a field (it reads Select demand type, Select reason or Select source) to pick from your list. To add a new value on the spot, type its name and choose Create demand type ”…” (or Create reason ”…”, Create source ”…”); the hint at the bottom of the list, “Type a name above to add a new demand type”, reminds you. Logistified confirms with, for example, ‘Demand type “Wholesale” added’. The new value is added to your list for every plan. Manage the lists in Inventory Planning settings.
Import several from a spreadsheet
Section titled “Import several from a spreadsheet”Use Import from CSV/XLSX when the demand comes from a spreadsheet, for example a customer’s forecast with one block of rows per store. Each row is one product. Logistified finds the product by its SKU or barcode.
The file’s columns:
| Column | Required | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Commitment | No | The name of the commitment the row belongs to. Rows with the same name become one commitment. Rows without one are imported together as a single commitment called “Imported commitment N”, which you can rename in the review. |
| SKU or Barcode | One of the two | Identifies the product. |
| Quantity | Yes | The estimated quantity. Rows with 0 are left out. |
| Location | No | The location’s name. Rows without one, or with a name Logistified doesn’t recognise, are Unallocated (all locations). |
| Target date | No | A single date for the row. |
| Start date and End date | No | A date range for the row instead. A start date without an end date is a single date. |
| Probability % | No | The row’s probability. Without it, the row uses the commitment’s probability. |
| Demand type, Reason, Source | No | Labels for the commitment. The first value found in its rows is used. |
The importer recognises common alternative column names and lets you match the rest by hand. To start from a template, click Example file › Download CSV or Download XLSX in the import dialog. For how importing works in general, see Import data from CSV or XLSX.
-
On the Inventory Commitments list, click Create Inventory Commitment › Import from CSV/XLSX. The Import commitments from CSV/XLSX dialog opens.
-
Upload your file. If the columns aren’t matched automatically, match them to the fields above.
-
Check the Review commitments step. Its summary reads, for example, “2 commitments ready · 0 with no matched items”. Each commitment is shown as a card with its Name, Timing (Single or Range, with the date or dates) and Probability %, which you can change here. The card says how many items matched (for example 12 items) and lists any SKUs or barcodes that weren’t found (for example “2 not matched: SKU-9, SKU-10”).
-
Click Create N commitments (Create 1 commitment for one). Logistified confirms with “Created N commitments”, and they appear in the list as Drafts.
What happens during the review:
- Timing is taken from the rows. If any row of a commitment has a date range, the commitment gets a date range from its earliest start to its latest end. Otherwise it gets the earliest single date. Each row also keeps its own date.
- The probability starts at 100% for each commitment. Change it on the card if the whole commitment is less certain.
- Repeated products are combined. If a product appears in several rows of the same commitment, the rows become one item with the quantities added up; its location, probability and dates come from the last of those rows. The card says so, for example “2 rows for SKU-123 combined”.
- Unmatched rows are left out. A commitment with no matched products isn’t created.
If the review doesn’t look right, use the buttons at the bottom: Change mapping to match the columns again, or Upload a different file.
If some commitments can’t be created, the others are created anyway. The ones that failed stay in the review with “Not created:” and the reason, and a message names them, for example “Couldn’t create 2 commitments: North, South”. Fix them and click Create N commitments again: only the ones left are created, never the same one twice. Once part of the file has been created, Change mapping is greyed out.
