Size groups

Enhanced plan

A size group plans the sizes of one product together in a New Product Planning plan. Logistified forecasts the product as a whole, then splits that forecast across its sizes by a percentage you control: the size split.

  • What a size group is
  • Create a size group
  • Add a size to an existing group
  • Size groups in the Week grid
  • The group panel
  • Suggest a split from history
  • Save & rebuild
  • After launch: switch to the actual size mix
  • Size groups on the Volume & launch tab
  • Ordering a size group
  • Size groups at several locations
  • See also

Everything that describes the product is set once, for the whole group:

  • One set of similar products. The group’s forecast is built from what those products sold.
  • One Volume ×. It scales the whole group up or down.
  • One launch date. Every size launches on it, unless you move a single size on purpose.
  • One size split. Each size gets a share, and the shares always add up to 100%.

Each size’s forecast is its share of the group’s forecast. With a split of 20 / 50 / 30 for S, M and L, M plans half of everything the group plans.

Size group or individual products? Use a size group when the sizes are one product and you expect them to sell in a steady proportion, as with clothing or shoes. Add variants as individual products when each one needs its own similar products, its own volume or its own launch, for example colors you expect to sell very differently.

The Size groups section comes after Individual products. Click Add group to start a group card. Each card has:

  • the group name (an unnamed group takes its product’s title when you add its first sizes), the group’s Volume × and a remove button,
  • a Sizes block with Add variants at its top right. It offers Browse products, Scan barcodes, Upload a spreadsheet and Virtual materials. Each size row has its share, a launch date (the plan date unless you pick another) and a remove button,
  • the total of the split, for example Total 100%, green at 100% and amber otherwise, with Split evenly, Normalize to 100% and Suggest from history. A line under the buttons says “The mix should add up to 100%.” while it doesn’t, and why a button is greyed out, for example “Already split evenly.” or “Add similar products below to suggest a mix.” A split that doesn’t add up to 100% is still scaled to 100% when the plan is created,
  • Similar products for the whole group.

Adding sizes splits the group evenly again. Under the name, the card reads “Sizes of product”. It turns amber when the sizes come from more than one product, because a size group usually holds one product’s sizes. A group card you leave without sizes isn’t saved with the plan.

When you add new products and pick two or more variants of the same product with Browse products or Virtual materials, in the wizard’s Add products or on a saved plan, Logistified asks Group this product by size?

  • Group by size puts them in a new size group with an even split.
  • Keep separate adds them as individual products.

New products that come from scanning barcodes, a spreadsheet or a forecast view are added as individual products. To put scanned or uploaded sizes in a group, use the group card’s Add variants in the wizard.

On a saved plan with size groups, Add products opens a menu. Next to New products there is one To “group” entry per group, with Browse products and Virtual materials.

A size added this way gets an even share: with four sizes after the add, 25%. The other sizes scale down in proportion, so the group still adds up to 100%. The group’s panel then says, in amber, “size was added with an even share. Check the split.” The note goes away when you save the group or reload the page.

A variant that’s already in the plan, as an individual product or in a group, is marked Already added. See Adding products to a plan.

On the Week grid tab, a size group is one row with its sizes indented beneath it. The group row shows the sum of its sizes and how many sizes it has.

  • Only the group row expands. Click its expander to open the group panel. Sizes have no expander and no panel of their own: everything about a size is managed on its group’s panel.
  • Sizes keep their week cells. You can still type into a size’s weeks, and show or hide a single size on the chart with Products › Show in chart. Week edits are saved with the page’s Save button.

Open the group panel from the group row’s expander. On a plan with several locations, pick a single location first: the panel belongs to that location’s group.

Similar products for the whole group lists the products the group’s forecast is built from, with their weights. Use Add similar products and choose Browse products or Virtual materials.

Volume × scales the whole group.

Launch date moves every size of the group. The line under it says “Every size launches on this date. Change a single size’s date on the Volume & launch tab.” When the sizes launch on different dates, the panel shows the range instead and starts with “Sizes launch on different dates. Picking a date moves every size.” To move one size on its own, use the Volume & launch tab.

A date picked here is saved with the page’s Save button.

The Size split table has one row per size: Product, Variant, SKU, Barcode (only when a size has one) and Share. Its title shows the total, for example ”· 100% of 100%”, green at 100% and amber otherwise. On a plan with several locations the title names the location, for example Size split · Berlin.

  • Even split gives every size the same share.
  • Normalize scales the shares to add up to 100% and keeps their proportions.
  • Suggest from history fills the split from what the similar products sold, size by size. See Suggest a split from history.

Whatever you type, the group is saved at 100%. If your shares add up to 90%, Logistified scales them up in proportion, so the group never plans less than its forecast. While the total is not 100%, the title says so beside it: “Save & rebuild scales the shares to 100%.” Click Normalize to see the scaled shares before you save.

Each size has a trash button. Logistified asks Remove this size? first. The other sizes take the removed size’s share in proportion, and the dialog says what that means for the total:

  • Usually: “Its share goes to the other sizes, so the group’s total stays the same.”
  • When other sizes have week edits, it names them, for example “except M, which keeps its edited weeks”. Their weeks don’t change, so the group’s total can.
  • When the group has launched, the share moves “from today on” and “Weeks before stay as planned.”

On a plan with several locations, the size is removed only at the location you have open, and the dialog names that location. The removal can’t be undone. If it’s refused, the dialog stays open and says why.

The last size of a group has no trash button. To remove it, remove the whole group.

The ⋯ menu (Group actions) next to Add similar products holds:

  • Apply to all locations, on a plan with several locations. It copies the group’s similar products and Volume × to the same group at the plan’s other locations. See Size groups at several locations.
  • Reset sizes to suggested forecast. Every size goes back to its share of the group’s suggested forecast, and your week edits are discarded. Logistified asks “Reset to the suggested forecast?” first. The reset is saved with the page’s Save button, and Discard undoes it until then.
  • Remove group. It removes the group and all of its sizes from the plan at every location; the dialog says how many. This cannot be undone.

Suggest from history opens Suggest size split from history. It needs at least one similar product.

How the split is worked out:

  1. Each size borrows from a size of the similar products. By default a size borrows from the size with the same name, for example M from M. The Based on column shows the choice for each size; change it to borrow from another size. Your choice applies to every similar product that has that size.
  2. Each similar product gets its own size shares from what it sold in those sizes.
  3. The products’ shares are blended by their weights. At equal weight, a product that sold 20 / 50 / 30 and one that sold 30 / 40 / 30 give 25 / 45 / 30, even if one sold many more units. A product with no sales in these sizes adds nothing, and the others share its weight. The dialog names it. If every product with sales has weight 0, they count equally.

Each size shows its suggested share and the number of sales behind it. If no size can be matched, its Based on reads Not set and the size gets 0%.

Confidence. A line at the top says how much history backs the split, for example “Based on 34 sales, low confidence.”

ConfidenceSales behind the splitWhat it means
None0No similar product sold in these sizes. The split is even.
Lowfewer than 100A rough guide. Shares can move by several points as sales come in.
Medium100 to 399A useful starting point.
High400 or moreShares are well established.

Before applying. Click Apply split. When confidence is none or low, or a size would get 0%, the dialog warns you first, for example “Only 34 sales back this split.” or “XL would get 0 %, so it is not planned.” The button then reads Apply anyway.

Applying fills the split. In the group panel, nothing is saved until you click Save & rebuild. In the wizard, the split is saved when you create the plan.

Save & rebuild saves the group’s similar products, Volume × and size split, then rebuilds the group’s forecast (its weekly curve) and splits it across the sizes again. Picking Use this window in a similar product’s sales history does the same straight away.

Keep your week edits? If some sizes have saved week edits, Logistified asks first and names them, for example “2 sizes have week edits: M, L.”

  • Keep my edits (preselected): those sizes keep their weeks.
  • Replace with the rebuilt curve: those sizes lose their week edits and get their share of the rebuilt forecast.

If no size has week edits, the group saves straight away.

“Save or discard your week edits first”. While a size of the group has week edits you haven’t saved yet, Save & rebuild, Use this window and the After launch buttons are greyed out with this message beside them. Click Save or Discard on the page first. This keeps the two saves from overwriting each other.

Unsaved group settings are kept. If you close the group panel or switch locations before Save & rebuild, the changes are still there when you open the panel again. The bar above the table reminds you, for example “1 size group has unsaved settings (Save & rebuild in the group)”. Discard on the page throws them away after asking first, and Logistified also asks before you leave the page with them unsaved.

After launch: switch to the actual size mix

Section titled “After launch: switch to the actual size mix”

Your split is a guess until the product sells. Once it does, the group panel shows how the sizes are really selling next to the split you planned, and you decide whether the rest of the season should follow the real mix.

Where it is. Open the group row’s expander on the Week grid, at a single location. The After launch section sits under Size split. Before the first size launches, a line there says the actual sales mix will show up after launch.

When it shows. Logistified compares the sizes once the group has sold for at least 14 days and at least 30 units at that location. Until then it says how far along you are, for example “Not enough sales yet to compare the size mix: 9 days and 21 units since Oct 7. It shows after 14 days and 30 units.”, or “No sales yet since Oct 7. It shows after 14 days and 30 units.” when nothing has sold.

What it shows. One row per size:

  • Pre-launch: the share you planned before launch.
  • Planned now: the share the group uses today, shown once it differs from the pre-launch share.
  • Selling: the size’s share of what the group sold at this location.
  • Units: what the size sold at this location.
  • All locations: the size’s share across every location of the plan, on plans with several locations.

The header gives the sales period and a confidence label, for example “Sales Oct 7 to Oct 28 (21 days) · Medium confidence”. The confidence uses the same scale as Suggest from history: a few dozen sales can still move by several points. Under the table, a line totals the units sold since launch at this location.

Sales are counted from the day the last of the group’s launch sizes launched, so a size that launched later doesn’t look less popular. A size that hasn’t launched yet reads “Launches date” and keeps its share.

Sizes you add after launch don’t restart the comparison. Such a size reads “No sales history yet” until it has sold for 14 days and at least 30 units on its own; then it joins the comparison. Until then, Use actual mix keeps that size’s share and gives the rest to the other sizes by how they sell. Once it joins, sales are compared from the day that size launched.

Sold out sizes. A size that is out of stock now gets the warning “Sold out now. Its real share may be higher.” One that sold nothing for a week or more while the other sizes kept selling gets “No sales from to to while other sizes sold. It may have been out of stock, so its real share may be higher.” A size can only sell what’s on the shelf, so its real share may be higher than it looks. Adjust its share by hand if you know it would have sold more.

Use actual mix for the remaining weeks. Click it to see exactly what would change before anything is saved: the dialog, for example “Use the actual sales mix from Oct 28?”, shows each size’s share now and after, and the units it plans from today on. Then:

  • Only the weeks from today change. Earlier weeks stay as you planned them, so Plan analytics still compares what you sold with what you planned at the time.
  • Sizes with week edits are listed. Replace their remaining weeks is preselected; their earlier weeks stay either way. Keep my edits leaves those sizes as they are, and the dialog shows how far the sizes then plan above or below the group.
  • Also at the other N locations, each with its own actual mix (plans with several locations) gives every location its own actual mix. Locations that haven’t sold enough yet are named and skipped.
  • The dialog says how the forecast is affected: the forecast uses the new split from today, unless the plan doesn’t feed the forecast, or Stop feeding on first real sale has already stopped sizes that sold.

Click Use actual mix to apply it. A message confirms it, for example “Size split switched to the actual sales mix from Oct 28”, and offers Undo. Later, Back to the pre-launch mix returns to the split you planned, again from today.

On a Locked plan the section is read-only and says “Unlock the plan to change the split.” Click Release to change it.

See it in Analytics. See sizes in Analytics opens Plan analytics with the group’s sizes selected at this location, to compare planned and actual week by week.

The Volume & launch tab lists the same rows as the Week grid.

  • The group row’s launch date moves every size of the group. When the sizes launch on different dates, it shows the range.
  • A size row’s launch date is that size’s own. This is the one place to move a single size away from the group’s date.
  • Volume belongs to the group. The group row shows it read-only, and a size row reads via group. Change it in the group panel.

Create purchase order rounds a size group once, not each size on its own. Five sizes that each need 2.2 units order 11 units together, not 3 each (15). The units are then shared out across the sizes. With One PO per location each location’s group is rounded on its own; One combined PO rounds the group once across all its locations.

On a plan with size groups, the dialog has At least 1 per size, off by default. Tick it to order at least 1 unit of every size, taken from the largest sizes. If the group needs fewer units than it has sizes, the order grows to 1 per size. On a combined PO that means one unit per size on the whole order, not per location.

After launch, the dialog covers from today by default, so a reorder follows the size split the group uses now and takes off the stock you already have or have on order.

Individual products are rounded up one by one. See Ordering for a launch.

On a plan with several launch locations, each location has its own copy of the size group.

  • Each copy is planned on its own. Its forecast comes from that location’s sales history, and you can give it its own split, Volume × and similar products.
  • All locations (summary) shows one row per group with every location added up. Settings are per location, so pick a location to open the group panel.
  • Apply to all locations copies similar products and Volume × to the other locations. Apply split to all locations, in the Size split title row, copies the split as well. Both copy the group as last saved, so while the panel has unsaved settings they are greyed out with “Save or discard your changes first”: click Save & rebuild first. Each location is still rebuilt from its own history. Week edits at those locations are kept unless you switch on Also overwrite hand-edited curves.
  • When the split differs between locations, the panel says “Split differs across locations. Applying this one replaces the others’ splits.”
  • Remove group removes the group at every location.
  • Add products › To “group” adds the size at every location of the plan.
  • Removing one size removes it only at the location you have open.
