Similar products & the launch curve

Enhanced plan

The Plan tab of a launch plan is where you shape each product’s launch curve: the units you expect it to sell, day by day, from its launch date to the end of the plan’s horizon. Logistified suggests the curve from the similar products you picked. You change the similar products, their weights and the volume, or edit the weeks directly.

  1. Each similar product’s sales are lined up from its own first sale. Day 1 of the new product is compared with day 1 of each similar product, even if they launched years apart.
  2. The similar products are blended by weight. A product with Weight 2 counts twice as much as one with weight 1. When one similar product’s history runs out earlier than the others’, the rest carry on alone from that day.
  3. The blend is scaled by Volume ×. 1 plans what an average similar product sold, 0.5 half of it, 2 twice as much.
  4. The curve starts on the launch date and runs to the end of the plan’s horizon.

On a plan with several launch locations, each location’s curve uses only what the similar products sold at that location, unless you change History from. Days with no history to borrow from plan 0 units. You can type your own numbers into those weeks.

Why similar products and not a guess? Their real sales give the new product a realistic launch shape: a strong first week, a slow start that builds up, or a seasonal peak.

From top to bottom, the Plan tab shows:

  • notices about the plan’s locations, for example a location where the similar products never sold,
  • the Details card,
  • the projected demand chart,
  • the table, with two tabs: Week grid and Volume & launch.

On a plan with several launch locations, pick a location in the switcher to change its similar products and settings. All locations (summary) adds the locations up, and you can still type week numbers there (see The Week grid). See Plans at several locations.

The chart stacks the products’ planned units, one colour per product. Its title sums it up, for example “Projected demand · 1,240 units across 3 products over 150 days”. A size group is named as one, for example “across 2 products and 1 size group (4 sizes)”. Long plans are shown in weekly or monthly totals.

Click Products (it shows how many are visible, for example Products (3/3)) to choose what the chart shows. Under Show in chart, tick or untick products, or use Show all and Hide all. Hovering a week in the table highlights it in the chart.

The Week grid has one row per product and one column per period, with a Total column and a Total row.

  • Group by switches the columns between Week, Month and Quarter. Week columns are calendar weeks, for example KW03 (calendar week 3) with its dates underneath as day and month.
  • Search products or SKUs… narrows the rows, and shows how many match, for example 2 of 5.
  • Edit a cell by clicking it and typing. A week’s number is spread evenly over its days. A month or quarter keeps its shape and is scaled up or down.
  • Cells outside a product’s launch window show a dash: the product hasn’t launched yet, or its horizon has ended.
  • A product at Volume × 0 can’t be edited until you give it a volume: hovering its cells says “Volume is ×0. Set a volume to edit the curve”.
  • Size groups are one row with their sizes beneath. See Size groups in the Week grid.

Editing on All locations (summary). On a plan with several locations, the summary is editable too. A line above the chart explains it: “This is the total of all locations. A number you change here is split across them in proportion to what each one plans for that period. Pick a location to change its similar products and settings.” When no location plans anything in that period yet, the number is spread evenly across them. The split lands on each location as an unsaved week edit, exactly as if you had typed it there. Rows on the summary have no expander: the product and group panels open at a single location only.

Click a product’s expander on the Week grid to open its panel. On a plan with several locations, pick a single location first: the panel belongs to that location’s product, and its list reads Similar products · location. The panel holds the product’s similar products, Volume ×, Launch date, and a chart of how much each similar product contributes.

  • Volume × (0 to 10) scales the product’s current curve, including your week edits. When you raise it from 0, the note “Curve rebuilds on save” appears.
  • Launch date moves the product’s curve to a new start.

Everything you change in the panel is saved with the page’s Save button above the table, together with your week edits. The panel has no save button of its own, so closing it or switching locations keeps your changes.

Similar products lists what the product’s curve is built from:

ColumnWhat it is
Product, Variant, SKU, BarcodeThe similar product.
WeightHow much it counts in the blend. New similar products start at 1. 0 leaves it out.
History fromWhich location’s sales it reads: Item’s location (the default), All locations, or locations you pick.
History startThe day its history is read from. Auto means its first sale. Click it to choose another day.
  • Add similar products › Browse products or Virtual materials adds more.
  • The × on a row removes a similar product.
  • As soon as you change the similar products or their weights, the curve and the chart show the rebuilt forecast.
  • Your changes count as unsaved changes on the page: Save above the table stores them with the curve you see, and Discard throws them away.
  1. On the Week grid, pick a single location in the switcher (on a plan with several locations), then click the product’s expander. Its panel opens.

  2. Under Similar products, click Add similar products › Browse products and pick the product that fits better.

  3. Click the × on the row of the similar product you want to drop.

  4. Adjust the Weight of each similar product, if one should count more than the others.

  5. Check the rebuilt curve in the panel’s chart, then click Save above the table.

By default, a similar product’s history is read from its first sale. When its first weeks don’t represent a normal launch, for example a launch that was delayed by a stock-out, choose a later start.

Click a similar product’s History start cell. The History window dialog shows its weekly sales at the locations it reads from, with its first sale marked.

  • Click a week, or pick a date in History starts. Weeks before it turn grey: they are left out.
  • The line under the field says how much of the plan that history covers, for example “history from Mar 03, 2025 covers 120 of 150 plan days”. Without a pick it reads “Auto: anchored on the first sale”, with the same coverage.
  • Use this window applies the choice and rebuilds the product’s curve straight away. Week edits to that product are replaced. Click Save above the table to keep it.
  • Clear (auto) goes back to the first sale; click Use this window to apply it.

If the similar product has no sales at those locations, the dialog says so, and that product adds nothing to the curve. Change History from to read from other locations.

The Volume & launch tab lists the same products, with two columns you can edit quickly across the whole plan and one total:

  • Launch date: when each product launches.
  • Volume ×: how much each product plans relative to its similar products.
  • Planned units: what the product plans in total (read-only).

A size group’s row moves the launch date of all its sizes. Its volume is changed in the group’s panel, so a size shows via group. See Size groups on the Volume & launch tab.

On All locations (summary), a value that differs between locations shows as a range. Typing a new value sets it at every location.

Week edits, launch dates, volumes and a product’s similar products stay unsaved until you click Save above the table. The button counts what you changed, for example Save 3 rows. Discard throws the changes away, including unsaved settings in a size group’s panel.

A size group’s panel is the one exception: it saves its own settings with Save & rebuild. While a group has unsaved settings, the bar says so, for example “1 size group has unsaved settings (Save & rebuild in the group)”. See Size groups.

While the plan has unsaved changes, Lock, Complete, Cancel, Rebuild forecasts and Create purchase order are greyed out with “Save or discard your changes first”. So is a panel’s Apply to all locations while that product or size group has unsaved settings. They all work from the saved plan, so they wait until your changes are saved or thrown away. If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, Logistified asks first.

Changes are kept for the whole plan, so you can switch locations and save everything at once. “+2 unsaved at other locations (saved too)” reminds you of changes at locations you can’t see. If you click Discard while other locations have changes, Logistified asks first, because those are discarded too.

The ⋯ menu (Product actions) in a product’s panel holds:

  • Apply to all locations, on a plan with several locations: copies this product’s similar products and Volume × to the same product at the plan’s other locations. Each location is rebuilt from its own sales history. Locations where you edited weeks by hand keep their numbers unless you switch on Also overwrite hand-edited curves. It copies what is saved, so it’s greyed out with “Save or discard your changes first” while the product has unsaved changes. Confirm with Apply to N locations.
  • Reset to suggested forecast: replaces the product’s curve with a freshly suggested one, sets Volume × back to 1, and discards your week edits.
  • Remove product: removes the product and its forecast.

All three ask for confirmation first. A reset shows as unsaved changes: Save keeps it, Discard undoes it.

Remove product takes effect straight away and can’t be undone. On a plan with several locations it removes the product at the location you have open only: the dialog says how many other locations still plan it, and Actions › Add missing products… can add it back there later with a fresh forecast. When that location is the only one that plans it, the product leaves the plan. If the removal is refused, the dialog stays open and says why.

Actions › Rebuild forecasts rebuilds every curve in the plan from its saved similar products (and, for size groups, the saved split). Logistified asks “Rebuild all forecasts?” first, because it discards every week edit in the plan. Click Rebuild to go ahead; a message confirms it, for example “Rebuilt 6 forecasts”. Use it after you changed many similar products and want to start over from the suggestions.

Rebuild forecasts is available while the plan is Draft or Confirmed, and greyed out with “Save or discard your changes first” while the page has unsaved changes. On a size group that has already launched, a rebuild changes the weeks from today on only.

For bigger changes, download the Week grid, edit it in a spreadsheet and upload it again.

  • Import / export › Download as XLSX or Download as CSV downloads every row of the plan, at every location, with one column per week, whichever location the switcher shows. A search you typed in the grid narrows the download too. The rows are identified by Item ID, SKU and Location; Location holds the location names you see in the app.
  • Only the week numbers are read back. Changing a product’s name, launch date or total in the sheet changes nothing. An empty cell leaves that week as it is.
  • Weeks outside a product’s launch window are skipped. To plan them, change the product’s launch date or the plan’s horizon first.
  1. On the Week grid, click Import / export › Download as XLSX.

  2. Change the week numbers you want in the spreadsheet and save the file. Keep the Item ID, SKU and Location columns as they are.

  3. Back on the plan, click Import / export › Upload edited sheet and choose the file.

  4. Check Review import: how many rows matched, how many products and weeks changed, and any rows that were skipped and why.

  5. Click Apply to grid. The new weeks appear in the grid as unsaved changes.

  6. Click Save. Nothing is saved before this step.

Rows are matched by Item ID, or by SKU and Location when the Item ID is missing. If a row can’t be matched, the review says why, for example a product that isn’t in the plan or a SKU that appears at two locations. Add the product to the plan first, or keep the Item ID column in the sheet.
