Creating a sales plan
You create every sales plan with the same three-step dialog. You choose the dates and locations, say how much you want to grow, pick the products, and check the targets before the plan is created. Everything can be fine-tuned on the plan afterwards.

The three steps
Section titled “The three steps”Open Inventory Planning, click the Sales Plans tile, then click Create Sales Plan. The Create Sales Plan dialog has three steps, shown as dots in its footer:
| Step | What you do |
|---|---|
| Setup | Name the plan, pick its dates and locations, and set the growth. |
| Products | Choose the products to set targets for. You can also skip this step. |
| Review | Check the targets seeded from last year at each location, then create the plan. |
Back and Next move between steps, and you can click a dot to go back to an earlier step.
Creating sales plans is part of the Elevate plan. On a lower plan the Create Sales Plan button is greyed out.
Setup: plan window
Section titled “Setup: plan window”Plan name (optional) comes first. Leave it empty and the plan is shown by its plan number, for example SP-00001 (the list reads “Unnamed sales plan”).
Under Plan Window, pick a Quick period or set a Start date and an End date yourself:
- This Quarter, Next Quarter
- Rest of Year (today to 31 December)
- This Year, Next Year
- Next 12 Months (the default: today until the day before the same date next year)
“Today” and the quarters and years are counted on your store’s calendar, in its time zone from Shopify (UTC when it can’t be read), not your computer’s.
The end date must be on or after the start date, and a plan can span at most 1,100 days. A longer window is refused right under the dates, for example “This window is 1,101 days long. A plan can span at most 1,100 days.”
Targets are planned day by day over the window, so every day from the start date to the end date gets its own target.
Windows longer than a year. You can plan more than a year ahead. The dialog then says so under the dates, for example “400 days. That’s longer than a year, so targets repeat last year’s sales pattern for every further year.”
Setup: locations and growth
Section titled “Setup: locations and growth”This part of the dialog is headed Locations & Growth.
Locations. A sales plan sets one target per product and location, each seeded from that location’s own sales. All locations is ticked by default. Untick it to pick locations from the list; you can search it.
All locations means every active location at the moment you create the plan. A location you add in Shopify later can be added to the plan with one click; see Plans at several locations.
Growth vs last year is how much more (or less) you want to sell than last year. It starts at 20%, and the readout next to it shows what that means, for example “×1.20 of last year’s sales”.
- Enter a negative number to plan for less, for example -10. The readout then shows “×0.90 of last year’s sales”.
- 0% keeps last year’s level, and -100% starts every target at 0: the readout says “Every target starts at 0.”
- Growth can be anywhere from -100% to +900%. Between -99% and -100%, only -100% itself is allowed: “Growth below −99% must be exactly −100%.”
- A comma works as the decimal mark too, for example 12,5.
The growth applies to every product in the plan. You can change it for a single product later on the Products tab; see Products, growth & targets.
Click Next. If something is missing, the reason is shown next to the button, for example “Pick at least one location, or tick All locations.”
Products
Section titled “Products”Click Add products and choose where the products come from:
| Source | What it does |
|---|---|
| Browse products | Pick products and variants from your Shopify catalog. |
| Scan barcodes | Scan a barcode or SKU, or type one and press Enter. |
| Upload a spreadsheet | Upload a file with one product per row, identified by Variant ID, SKU or Barcode. Example file gives you a template. |
| From a forecast view | Add every product in one of your saved forecast views, or build filters for a one-off view. “This view’s location filter is replaced by this plan’s locations.” |
| Virtual materials | Add raw materials you manage in Assemblified. |
From a forecast view is the fastest way to plan a whole category or supplier: you probably already have a view for it.
You can mix sources. Each product is picked once: products you already picked are marked Already added. The picked products are listed under Products to plan with their Product, SKU and Barcode. Use the × on a row to remove one, or Clear all to start again. For more on the product sources, see Adding products to a plan.
How many rows the plan gets. Each product is planned at each location, so a line above the list counts the rows, for example “12 products × 3 locations = 36 plan rows”. With All locations ticked it reads “12 products × 3 locations (all active) = 36 plan rows”. Under it, the dialog tells you how many products a plan with these locations and dates can hold, for example “This plan can hold up to 547 products (5 locations, 365 days).”
- Above 500 rows the dialog warns that large plans load and edit more slowly. You can still create the plan.
- When the plan would be too big, the dialog says how many products to remove, or how far to shorten the window, and Preview targets stays greyed out (“Too many rows. See above.” or “Too many daily values. See above.”) until it fits. Split a large range into two plans, for example one per category.
When your list is ready, click Preview targets.
Review
Section titled “Review”Logistified works out every target from last year and shows them before anything is saved.
Three tiles sum up the plan:
- Target units: all targets added up.
- Target revenue: target units × each product’s current price. Products without a price are left out and the tile says how many.
- Locations with sales last year: for example 3 of 4.
The table below lists each target with its Last year sales, Target units and Target revenue. Use Group by to group it by Location (the default) or by Product. Each group shows its own subtotals. Groups with sales come first, the biggest at the top. When more than three groups sold nothing last year, those groups start folded; click one to open it.
Targets can have decimals: they are planned per day to two decimal places, so a slow seller can have, for example, 0.25 units a day. Revenue uses each product’s current price, as the line under the table says.
How a target is worked out: each day of the plan takes the same date one year earlier at that location, multiplied by the growth. So the target keeps last year’s seasonal shape. Leap days: a February 29 in the plan takes last year’s February 28, and last year’s February 29 is added to the plan’s February 28, so a full year keeps all of last year’s sales. A day that sold nothing last year stays at 0.
If the targets look wrong, click Back to change products, dates, locations or growth.
A product was deleted in Shopify meanwhile. If a product you picked no longer exists in your store, the Review step says so, for example “Couldn’t compute the targets: 1 product is no longer available: Mug · Blue. Remove it to continue.” Click Remove and retry to drop it and preview the rest.
Create plan or Create empty plan
Section titled “Create plan or Create empty plan”- Create plan, on the Review step, creates the plan with every target you previewed.
- Create empty plan appears on the Products step instead of Preview targets when you haven’t picked any products. The plan is created with its dates and locations, and you add products from the plan page later.
After creating, Logistified confirms with “Sales plan SP-00001 created” and opens the plan on its Products tab. The plan starts in Draft. Every product starts at the growth you set, and its revenue is units × price until you type your own. See Statuses on a sales plan for confirming it.
A sales plan is created all at once: if creating fails, nothing is saved and the dialog stays open with the reason.
Locations with no sales last year
Section titled “Locations with no sales last year”Targets come from each location’s own history. Sales at other locations are never copied over. So where a product didn’t sell last year, its target starts at 0.
The Review step tells you before you create the plan:
- an amber notice, for example “No sales last year at 1 of 4 locations”. Show locations lists which locations and products are affected,
- a badge on each affected group, and an icon on each affected row.
After the plan is created, a message repeats which locations had no sales last year. Set targets there by hand in the plan grid or on the Products tab. A new store with no history is the typical case.
